Heroic Bodies by Sara Suliman

The film tells the story of Sudanese women's struggle through a number of diverse testimonies and interviews, covering nearly ninety years of struggle, starting at the beginning of the twentieth century and including milestones such as the founding of the Sudanese Women's Union (1952) by Aziza Mekki Osman and others.

Director Sara Suleiman captures the profiles of pioneering women who have played a significant role in the country's modern history. She also draws on a theoretical framework defined by a deconstructive reading of body politics and the resulting oppression, control, and exclusion of women from the public sphere.
